DESIGNED IN DENMARK
MONOQOOL was established north of Copenhagen by two Danes, whose vision
was to bring new technology, design, and fashion to the modern eyewear
industry.
Their mission is to use the best from two worlds. They
set out to, and succeeded to combine striking Danish design and an
innovative mindset with Japanese craftsmanship and the latest
technology.
Both Monoqool owners have a life time experience
doing business in both countries and one of them is still living in
Japan with the responsibility for overseeing manufacturing. |

The idea behind
MONOQOOL was to create something new. The result was two new concepts:
the Helix series with its patented signature hinge and the Twins series
with a three dimensional effect provided by its inventive double
temples.
Right from the beginning of the design process MONOQOOL
has been aware that coming up with a concept never seen before in the
eyewear business, would be a demanding task. MONOQOOL has therefore been
focusing on developing a new concept and a new way of looking at eyewear
with a search for a basic idea so strong that it has the potential to
become an icon.
Often the simplest ideas are the hardest to get
and the most difficult to produce. To get to the right design and to
bring this design to life we keep an intensive focus with close
communication with our designers and with technical as well as industry
experts.
With the Helix design, we wanted to
eliminate the traditional hinge that makes most eyewear seem mechanical
and complicated. We aimed to uncomplicate the complicated. And, in the
process, we discovered a solution to attach the temples in a new way -
by using the helix geometry.
A helix is a mathematical shape. You
see it every day. You use it to tie your shoes, to stitch fabric with a
needle and thread, and it's the geometry that make springs work. It
makes light bulbs emit light, it makes clocks spin and it makes your
mattress soft. But it can also be a hinge for eyewear.
The Twin series design is a simple detail, which catches the
eye of both the person looking at the glasses, and the person wearing
them. We added a new dimension - literally speaking. From a distance,
Twins is clearly rooted in the proud tradition of Scandinavian design:
simple and minimalistic. However, up close, the three-dimensional effect
comes to life. The design is based upon a play between shapes and
colours, where the colour of the inside temple contrasts with the more
subtle shades of the outside of the glasses. The double temple is a
great example of something that is particular yet simple. It is what gives
the Twin series itsspecialcharacteristic. |
